Process
How NP Preceptor Matching Works
We carefully match you with qualified NP students based on your schedule, preferences, and expertise — so mentoring is rewarding, not stressful.

Create your profile
It takes less than 5 minutes — simply fill out some basic details, upload your resume, license, and board certification(s), and tell us your schedule and preferences. Your information will not be shared with students until you approve a match.

Receive a match request
You'll have the opportunity to review the student's profile and resume, along with an estimated honorarium, before you accept the match.

Begin the rotation
We complete all required paperwork and facilitate an introduction. You'll agree on a schedule together and get started. Should anything come up, we are available before, during, and after each placement to offer support.

Requirements and Guidelines for Preceptors
Requirements
- Active, unrestricted NP (or MD/DO/PA, if applicable) license in your state
- National board certification in your specialty
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience (post-licensure)
- Practice setting aligned with student learning needs and university requirements
- Willingness to teach and mentor NP students for agreed-upon rotations
Guidelines & Expectations
- Provide a supportive, educational environment for hands-on clinical learning
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate students throughout the rotation
- Collaborate with students to establish a consistent schedule
- Maintain compliance with clinical site and university requirements
- Communicate any issues or changes promptly with the MatchNP team

Yes, we require students to have their RN license in the state of the clinical setting; they cannot be on academic probation; their work history is carefully reviewed; and we understand each student's unique needs to ensure a high-quality match.
You can manage your availability directly in your profile, including any leaves of absence or other changes. We take your preferred schedule and availability into account when identifying student matches. Once you've accepted a match, you'll collaborate directly with the student to establish a rotation schedule that fits seamlessly into your workflow.
